SKY

Nothing appears more enigmatic and remote than the inhabitants of the solar system. The sun, moon, stars, planets, and even comets keep watch over us at all hours of the day and night; they brighten our days and darken our nights.

Sky, however, is always above us with its various phases. Dark at night, blue and cloudy during the day. It’s a blanket over our heads keeping us amazed and warm.

The Sun blazes bright and ever mysterious.

The all-powerful Sun spun tales to explain its origin, its movement, and its place in the Sky.

Sky found  Sun mysterious. It disappeared when Sky was gloomy or when  Night arrived. Sky often wondered what happened to Sun. It would vanish like it never existed with its illuminating light and charm.

Sky didn’t know what Sun was called.

It was a spring day when Sun arrived. It seemed somewhat relaxed like nothing happened to it the other night. Sky wanted to bore Sun with all its nonchalant questions. But they had never talked before. The sun shone every day, occasionally and Sky spread its width. And this continued from the beginning (Which they don’t know when the beginning was), and never shared a word.

It was not only Sun. Moon also disappeared occasionally. Moon was generally seen as a benevolent, friendly presence in the nighttime. The nearest and dearest neighbor in the solar system often changed its shape. One night it looked full the other night half-bitten. Sky often wondered if it fought any wars. The full Moon inspired awe and devotion on the part of earthlings who basked in its light. Sometimes Moon’s relatives visited him, Stars. They were all tiny and so many. Sky could never count them or spot them all at the same place. With their thousands of encounters they never talked, they never knew who they were, they never got to hear each other’s stories.

Sky was a whole body but very lonely. Whether Day arrived or Night it stopped mattering to Sky, or it was just dying out of curiosity but it never knew.

One day when Sun was shining so bright it could literally blind everyone, Sky brought up the guts to utter something.

“I see you too often not to know your name.”
